Progress at Ext 7

Roads that washed away will be reconstructed and the contractor will consider measures to prevent further washing away of the roads

15 February marked two years since the Msukaligwa Municipality handed over the site at Ext 7 along the road to Hendrina for the development of infrastructure earmarked for 416 low-cost and middle-class houses.

The contract was initially handed to Ikwindla Contractor and was terminated by the provincial government and KCE was appointed in January and given three months to complete the work.

Through the municipal media office, the Highvelder received the following information about the new scope of work.

l 208 house connections will be checked and damaged or stolen connections will be replaced and eight valves will be installed.

l 426m of 250mm and 130m of 75mm underground pipeline will be installed and blasting will be required in the affected area.

l 104m of 160mm sewer lines will be installed and 22 manholes are partially completed.

l Some of the already installed sewer lines are to be cleaned as soil has been deposited due to rain.

l 96m of storm water pipe will be installed.

l Roads that washed away will be reconstructed and the contractor will consider measures to prevent further washing away of the roads

According to KCE, they will be able to report on certain tasks and completion dates soon. However, they aim to finish all the work before the March 2014 deadline.

According to the municipal housing section, the low-cost housing will be allocated according to the municipal waiting list and the gap market will be allocated on first come, first served basis.
