Chrissiesmeer Police arrested a 44-year-old man on 7 August in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old girl.
The suspect was living with her mother and the child.
Const Patience Ngozo, spokesman for Chrissiesmeer Police, said according to the child, the suspect raped her when her mother was not around and threatened to kill her if she reported the matter.
“The girl fell pregnant and recently gave birth to a baby girl.”
The suspect appeared in court and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 15 August.
Chrissiesmeer Police urged all parents to report such incidents to the police and added that mothers should not fail their children by not reporting their boyfriends or husbands who abuse their children.
