11 February – 9:30:

Eskom announced today that loadshedding Stage 2 will be implemented countrywide.

This comes after Eskom has not implemented loadshedding from 9 December until now.

The loadshedding began at 1pm today and will last until 10pm.

According to a press release from Eskom, this is due to a shortage of capacity.

There is also a need to replenish and preserve emergency water and diesel resources to limit loadshedding possibility or magnitude thereof the following week.

Eskom reminded customers to treat all electrical points as live during loadshedding.

Stage 2 calls for 2000MW to be rotationally loadshed nationally at a given period.

Loadshedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

Eskom urged residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly and to switch off all geysers and other electricity appliances to help reduce the demand.

For Eskom customers, these schedules are available on the Eskom website (https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za)
