Dismal season continues for local teams in SAB Soccer League

The next round of action in the SAB Soccer League will take place this coming weekend at various stadiums across the district.

The SAB Soccer League resumed this past weekend at various stadiums around the Gert Sibande District.

Local teams were looking to change the poor start to the 2018/19 season with all five teams participating in the fifth round.

The local outfits once again had a weekend to forget as none of them registered maximum points on the log standings.

VOC United fell to Manzana FC side who are on a winning run after winning with big margins in their last three matches.

The locals could not respond to the team from Badplaas, going down 2-0.

Mafia FC succumbed to a demoralising 5-1 defeat at the hands of Flymingo United FC.

Newcomers Mpumalanga Eagles FC once again participated in an Ermelo Derby and had to share the spoils with SunCity Gunners in a goal fest draw.

That match ended 3-3 at the AJ Swanepoel Stadium.

In other matches, PR Barcelona handed another defeat to defending champions, Somhlolo FC.

The Somhlolo side is having a horrible season and are yet to register a win.

Neighbours Breyten Home Sweepers managed a scrappy 1-0 win against Carolina’s Passion FC while Losta Stars lost 2-1 to XI Experience.

After the weekend, Flymingo United top the leaderboard on 15 points, however, they are closely followed by Breyten Home Sweepers with the same number of points.

The two top teams are separated by a goal difference.

Manzana FC round off the top three on 13 points.

Mpumalanga Eagles FC are the top local team in seventh place on the log table with eight points.

VOC United currently occupy the tenth place on six points.

The other three local sides languish at the bottom of the table with Mafia FC in fifteenth place.

SunCity Gunners FC follows in sixteenth and Ermelo United are in seventeenth.

Defending champions, Somhlolo FC, play catch up to all the other teams as they are at the bottom.
