Two men sentenced for gruesome murder of man in Mayflower

The body of Mr Jeremiah Mnisi was found inside the river and it was suspected it had been chopped up by an axe and ran over by a car.

Two men from Dundonald, Mayflower received multiple sentences each in the Mayflower Periodical Court for a crime committed in 2013.

Siphamandla Sfiso Mdebuka (24) and Vusimuzi Andries Shabangu (24) were sentenced to 15 years for housebreaking, five years for kidnapping and 20 years for murder.

The two men broke into the residence of 53-year-old Mr Jeremiah Mnisi at around 2.30am on 27 December 2013.

They assaulted and kidnapped him and drove his vehicle to Dundonald in Mayflower.

After diligent work done by the Mayflower Police, the car was traced and found next to the Lusushwana River in Dundonald.

The body of the victim was found inside the river and it was suspected it had been chopped up by an axe and ran over by the car.

The victim’s cell phone was found in the possession of one of the suspect’s sisters, while a wallet was found at the suspect’s residence.

Capt A.S. Mlangeni of the Chrissiesmeer Police would like to thank police members from Hartebeeskop and Mayflower who assisted him in arresting the suspects.
