Three arrested after trying to steal diesel in a mine in Breyten

It was discovered that the suspects have already drained about 6 000 litres of diesel which was left at the scene in one of their trucks.

Two men and a woman were arrested for business robbery in Breyten on Monday, 3 September.

According to information at the police’s disposal, six men allegedly armed with firearms, entered a mine in Breyten and told two security guards that they wanted to buy diesel.

Other employees on duty got suspicious about the proposed transaction and contacted the police.

When they arrived, the suspects ran away, however, one was arrested, but the others managed to escape and left behind two bakkies and a tanker.

It was discovered that the suspects had already stolen about 6 000 litres of diesel.

Further investigation led police to two other suspects, a man and a woman, at the entrance of the mine who are suspected to be linked to the case and were arrested.

The three suspects appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 4 September.
