Executive mayor begins draft consultation meetings for the 2018/2019 financial budget

Mr Nkosi will be presenting the budget, which includes the operating budget, tariff increases, small consumer accounts and medium consumer accounts.

Tariffs will increase and consumers are likely to see an increase in:

• Assessment rate – 5,30 per cent

• Electricity – 6,84 per cent

• Water – 10 per cent

• Sewerage – 10 per cent

• Refuse – 10 per cent

• Sundry – 10 per cent

The proposed budget will also address other service delivery challenges, such as:

• Water and sanitation

• Road maintenance

• Electricity infrastructure

A job creation strategy will also be tabled to tackle unemployment.

“The municipality will ensure a labour intensive programme with the focus on the youth,” said the municipal spokesman, Mr Mandla Zwane.

He urged residents to attend the consultation meetings.
