Mpumalanga Stadium’s renovations are done

The entire soccer field has been rehabilitated and upgraded with a sprinkler system, renovations to the borehole were done, new Jojo tanks added to supply water and the rusted grandstand was renovated with steel work and paint.

The Mpumalanga Stadium in Wesselton was officially handed over to the Msukaligwa Municipality on 19 March after renovations to the stadium were completed.

The project began in December 2016 when the municipality appointed Mafahleni Engineers to manage the project and contractors began working on 28 February last year with an expected completion date of June.

The work was completed in January this year.

Renovations to the changing-rooms and ablution blocks included a new sewerage system, new tiles, showers and a fresh coat of paint.

The contractors also repaired the old sewerage line and built a new septic tank.

Combo-courts at the stadium were added with some renovated to accommodate different sport teams.

Sport that can now be hosted includes netball, basketball, tennis and handball.

The tuck-shop, that used to be at the stadium, was renovated into two first-aid rooms as per regulations of the stadium.

A budget of R10,2-mil was used, 98 locals were employed and nine local contractors benefited from the project.

The engineers also experienced some challenges during the renovation period such as vandalism and theft.
