Gert Sibande District Municipality hands over public participation vehicles to municipalities

The vehicles will assist municipalities to communicate messages of service delivery and other municipal related issues.

Gert Sibande District Municipality handed over brand new public participation motor vehicles to all seven local municipalities on Monday.

The public participation vehicles are equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system and will be used to relay information about events and meetings to the communities at large.

The vehicles will also assist the municipalities to communicate messages of service delivery and a public participation officer in each municipality will be held responsible for the vehicle.

GSDM Speaker Mr J. Nkosi, whose office handed over the vehicles, said there was a need for such vehicles as it was the fastest and easiest route to relay messages of service delivery, community meetings and ward committee meetings.

He added the vehicles would need to be efficiently managed by public participation officers in the Offices of the Speakers.

“It is a great thing as a district that we hand over these vehicles, as it will encourage economic and social development through community participation which we achieve when the community at large receives the message to attend, especially in our rural municipalities,” said GSDM Chief Whip Mr Trevor Nkosi.

He added that the vehicles would bridge the gap between municipalities and the community.
