Working on Fire hosts recruitment drive in Ermelo to beef up firefighting team ahead of Winter fire season

WoF recruited 19 previously unemployed young men and women from marginalised communities in Ermelo, who will undergo specialised firefighting training.

Working on Fire (WoF) in Mpumalanga was on a recruitment drive at the AJ Swanepoel Stadium last Tuesday to beef up existing firefighting teams ahead of the upcoming fire season.

“We have recruited 19 previously unemployed young men and women from marginalised communities in Ermelo, who will undergo specialised firefighting training, which includes fire awareness and education, prevention and fire suppression skills, first aid, carpentry, cooking, health and safety and communications,” said WoF provincial spokesman Lebogang Maseko.

The new recruits went through vigorous fitness tests that included a 2.4 km run in under 12 minutes for males and 14 minutes for females, 40 push-ups and eight pull-ups for both males and females.
