Truck driver has lucky escape

The driver of a heavy vehicle was lucky to escape serious injury in a collision involving two trucks at about 22:30 on Tuesday night. The accident happened on the Estancia bridge on the N11 between Ermelo and Hendrina.

According to the driver, he failed to see a stationary truck on top of the bridge as there were no lights or warning triangles placed in the roadway and crashed into the back of it.

“I could not swerve out too far as there was a another vehicle approaching on the oncoming side. Yes, I’m lucky not to have suffered serious injury,” he said.

Mpumalanga Emergency Services personnel treated the driver for a minor cut to the head on the scene. He was not hospitalised.
