World Cup dreams

Nonhlanhla Mngoma has been selected for Mpumalanga's senior netball team, the Sunbirds, that will play in the Brutal Fruit Premier League next month.

Top netball player Nonhlanhla Mngoma has been selected for Mpumalanga’s senior netball team, the Sunbirds, that will play in the Brutal Fruit Premier League next month.

Nonhlanhla joined the ranks of local netball team, the Supa Quick Blondies, eight months ago.

She fell in love with netball when she first played it aged seven.

Since then, she has excelled in the sport, receiving her first provincial colours in Grade 11.

In 2007, Nonhlanhla received her national colours when she was chosen for the Proteas U/21 team.

She has represented Central Gauteng, Eastern Gauteng and Mpumalanga on provincial level and played for the Black Diamonds in the national league (Netball Grand Series) in 2012.

Nonhlanhla says a senior player at school inspired her and she always wanted to play as well as she did.

Her goal is to be selected for the World Cup team.

Selections for this team will take place at the Brutal Fruit Premier League.

The opening match between the Sunbirds and the Baobabs on 21 April will be televised live at 18:00 on Supersport Select.
