Social Development steps in

The couple said there has been several attempts by the new farm owner to remove them from the farm.

The Department of Social Development (DSD) Ermelo district office has stepped in to assist a family whose three-roomed shack was gutted by fire last month.

Mr Meshack Kaiser Mndebele (57) and his wife, Ms Linah Mavimbela (49), of Mooifontein farm near Breyten were attending a funeral at another farm, when they received the news that a fire had demolished their home.

Upon receiving the news, the DSD conducted an investigation into how they could assist the family and have since provided social relief.

The family received seven blankets, clothes and food parcels for the next three months.

The department will also look into assisting the family with furniture after they have rebuilt their shack or built another one.

The couple had been staying at the farm for the past 40 years and suspected foul play when their shack was razed.

They said there had been several attempts by the new farm owner to remove them from the farm.
