Zodwa calls the netball shots
Zodwa is serving as president of the Gert Sibande Netball Association and vice-president of the Mpumalanga Netball. Association.
Born in Wesselton, Ermelo, Zodwa Kajeni is fast making a name for herself in local and provincial netball circles.
She attended a primary school in Ermelo and after completing matric in Dundee, she moved to Pretoria to further her studies.
Zodwa obtained her degree in office management and technology at the Technikon Pretoria (TUT) and returned to Ermelo in 2005 where she started work at the licensing department. In 2008 she was promoted to the municipality’s finance department where she deals with budgets.
Apart from enjoying her work and her love for her two young children, netball has always been a great passion in her life.
She first started playing in higher primary at the age of 12 and instantly developed a love for the sport.
After school she carried on, playing for TUT in the hostel league (similar to varsity netball).
Once she returned to Ermelo after her studies, Zodwa joined the Msukaligwa Netball Club.
In 2013, Zodwa and two other team mates, Gugu Buthelezi and Sma Mabuza, decided to form a new team and the Blondies team was born.
The question on everybody’s lips is: why call yourselves the Blondies?
It is easily answered.
“We named our team after our coach, Madeleine Botha, a white girl with blonde hair, and we are proud to be called the Blondies,” said Zodwa.
The Blondies have enjoyed a great deal of success lately and with their sponsor Supa Quick on board this year, they ended second in the Gert Sibande league.
The Blondies are also proud to have Zodwa serving as president of the Gert Sibande Netball Association.
Recently she was also appointed as vice-president of the Mpumalanga Netball Association.
Zodwa is truly humbled and excited, looking forward to making a difference in the three-year term that lies ahead.
She has big plans that include more teams, male and female, joining the GS regional leagues and encouraging more people to get active and join in for the fun and ultimately let netball grow in the province.
Zodwa knows hard work is ahead, but she is looking forward to the challenge.
