To date, 2600 participants have benefited from the programme since it was introduced in 2007.

The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport (DPWRT) invites unemployed youth to attend a compulsory briefing aimed at recruiting candidates to participate in the National Youth Service Building Maintenace Programme (NYSBMP).

To qualify for the programme, candidates should be 18 to 35 years and in possession of a Grade 12 certificate. The aim of the programme is to address youth unemployment and poverty in the province and to develop entrepreneurial skills.

Briefing sessions will be held in all local municipalities from 2 to 19 November. Albert Luthuli and Msukaligwa local municipalities will host their briefing today (Thursday) at 10:00 in Elukwatini DPWRT and in Ermelo at the Batho Pele Building respectively.

Youth living in Mpumalanga with experience in the building environment should also attend the briefing session. Participants will acquire various artisan skills such as plastering, painting, bricklaying, welding and plumbing during the one-year on-job training. The participants will also help maintain government buildings and some of the nature reserves in the province.

To date, 2600 participants have benefited from the programme since it was introduced in 2007.
