Eskom debt escalated

Poor planning and reckless spending have become the new foundation.

The Accountant General has stated that the national municipal debt to Eskom is R4,9-billion, while Mpumalanga municipalities owe R1,847 billion.

Mpumalanga managed to add almost a billion rand to their debt, as their debt was R852-million in March last year.

Eskom alerted Govan Mbeki, Lekwa, Msukaligwa, Thaba Chewu and eMalahleni municipalities that their electricity supply would be cut-off by 5 June this year due to their outstanding debt, but they managed to escape the situation by making payment plans with Eskom.

According to the DA, poor planning and reckless spending have become the new foundation of the ANC governance, which affects service delivery to the country.
