Cassim Park residents set an example

In a joint operation last Saturday, community members and municipal workers set out to clean up the open lot next to the Cassim Park Community Hall.

An enthusiastic group of youngsters braved the cold weather on Saturday morning and gathered at the Cassim Park Community Hall to be part of a community clean-up campaign.

The campaign was initiated by Ms Fatima Danka, a resident of Cassim Park, who was appalled at the amount of litter strewn about by the public.

She approached the Solid Waste Management Department of the Msukaligwa Municipality for assistance and was delighted when the municipality did not hesitate in coming on board.

In a joint operation last Saturday, community members and municipal workers donned protective gloves and armed with plastic bags that were provided by the municipality, set out to clean up the open lot next to the Cassim Park Community Hall.

The focus then shifted to the nearby community playground where 25 trees were planted.

In his address to the participants of the campaign, Mr Themba Zwane encouraged the youngsters to

keep the environment clean by not throwing litter in the streets and public places.

“The responsibility lies with each one of us to ensure that future generations will be able to live in a litter-free and healthy environment,” he said.
