MEC treats senior citizens to a gala dinner
The games officially begin today with a total of 17 sporting codes at the AJ Swanepoel Stadium in Ermelo.
Mpumalanga MEC for Social Development Ms Nomsa Mtsweni treated senior citizens participating in this years provincial golden games to a gala evening at the mayoral parlour at the Gert Sibande District Municipality last night.
She said this is a bid to improve the quality of older person’s lives which is in line with the departments response to challenges faced by older persons which comprise their well-being.
“I’m truly honored to be surrounded by such important people in our lives, our parents, grandparents and people from whom we seek guidance from during life’s difficulties. Your senior citizens are our source of inspiration hence I’m happy to have you here tonight,” said the MEC.
The gala dinner got off to a steamy start as three districts, Gert Sibande, Nkangala and Ehlanzeni District Municipalities competed in a musical festival where each municipality offered two songs of their choice.
Ehlanzeni District Municipality walked away with the first prise after collecting 86 points, second placed Gert Sibande accumulated 85 points and the Nkangala District Municipality collected 84 points putting them third place.
