A proper seat for every learner

The delivery of school furniture will begin next week and will continue until the goal is achieved.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education (MED) has set aside R100 million to ensure that every learner has a desk or a chair and table.

The delivery of school furniture will begin next week and will continue until the goal is achieved.

The MEC for Education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, will from Monday witness the delivery of the furniture at schools in the Mbombela Local Municipality, which will also roll out to other parts of the province.

Ms Mhaule said it is unacceptable that learners should be sitting on bricks or boxes as it is alleged in some areas.

“Government has put aside resources to create conducive conditions for teaching and learning. It is for this reason that this department will monitor closely the delivery of school desks and chairs so that our children may appreciate that we value and care for their future,” she said.

The MED also urged learners to take care of their furniture and to refrain from vandalising it, as this will ensure that the department does not have to buy furniture every year.
