South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) has sparred no blows as they sent their memorandum of demands to Transnet Ermelo recently.
The list of demands include instructions to the rail company to directly employ fixed-term contractors on better conditions of work and benefits, Transnet to directly contract service providers and get rid of the chain of contractors that currently characterise Ermelo depot, Transnet is also instructed to re-employ all fixed tern contractors who were unfairly terminated in March.
Satawu has given the rail company seven days to respond.
