Rapes and murders continue in Ermelo

The past weekend again saw serious crimes being committed in Ermelo.

* A 16-year-old girl was raped on Friday 30 January while walking home in Hlubi Street with her younger sister. According to the complainant they were followed by a man who threatened both of them with a knife and assaulted the 16-year-old. The younger sister managed to run away, but the older sister was taken to a nearby shack and allegedly raped.

* Sibusiso Lukhele (25) died after being stabbed in the neck and ear during an apparent argument between a group of men late on Friday night. The incident took place near a nightspot in Sluiter Street. Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigating officer W/O AZ Phiri at 017 811 2321 or 082 373 8389.

* A 24-year-old woman, Simphiwe Pearl Hadebe, was found dead outside her home on Sunday morning. Police spokesman Capt Carla Prinsloo said Hadebe had apparently been assaulted and hit with a brick on Saturday night by a man believed to be her boyfriend. A third party was also injured in the incident. A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

* Swift follow-up action by police has led to the recovery of property stolen during a housebreaking incident in Klein Street last week. Burglar bars at a residence were forced open and a laptop computer and a tablet were stolen. Information received led police to two suspects who were found in possession of the stolen items. The suspects were brought in and booked while the owner was busy opening a case of theft at the Ermelo Police Station.
