Msukaligwa Municipality to upgrade prepaid meters in Ermelo

This approved council initiative tackles pressing concerns that are vital to both the municipality and residents.

ERMELO – In a bid to enhance the reliability of the electricity prepayment systems in town, the Msukaligwa Local Municipality has begun a Data Cleansing Audit and Token Identifier (TID) Rollover Project for all prepaid meters.

This initiative, which was approved by council, addresses urgent issues, crucial to the municipality and its residents.

The municipality will conduct visits to households to carry out the audit and rollover project.

Purpose of the audit and upgrade

  • The TID, representing the minutes elapsed since January 1, 1993, will reach its maximum capacity on November 24, 2024.
  • It is vital to upgrade the meters to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • To eliminate ghost vending, where unauthorised tokens are used for electricity purchases.
  • Enhance revenue protection and update prepaid customers and meters in the billing system through data cleansing audits.

Scope of work

  • Examining meter services, customer data, account details, and geographic information system (GIS) verification.
  • Faulty or damaged meters will be addressed.
  • Customer information is to be verified, and billing data is to be ensured.

Safety and security protocols for residents

  • Residents can verify auditor credentials through MLM-approved ID cards and vests with the municipality’s logo.
