The anniversary model will be produced in South Africa, but is available exclusively for European and Japanese markets.

Volkswagen is commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Polo GTI by unveiling a limited edition model, the Polo GTI Edition 25 and it will be produced in South Africa.

This limited-edition vehicle pays tribute to the introduction of the iconic GTI badge on the Polo in 1998 and showcases the evolution of the sporty compact car over the years. With a powerful engine, sporty design elements, and exclusive features, the Polo GTI Edition 25 promises to differentiate itself to the standard model.

The Polo GTI has a rich history, starting with its introduction in 1979 as the GT variant of the first Polo product line. It wasn’t until 1998, with the third generation Polo, that the iconic GTI badge was adopted. Over the years, Volkswagen has continued to refine and enhance the Polo GTI, capturing the hearts of enthusiasts. Noteworthy iterations include; the limited production first Polo GTI in 1998, the 132kW Cup Edition in 2006, and the 141kW powerhouse in 2014. The latest sixth-generation Polo GTI, built on the modular transverse matrix platform, offers groundbreaking technology, exceptional strength, and superior crash safety.

Underneath its stylish exterior, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is motivated by a formidable two-litre TSI engine generating 152kW and 320Nm. This front-wheel drive Polo GTI Edition 25 can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds. The specially tuned sports suspension, combined with the electronic differential lock XDS, contributes to excellent driving dynamics, enhanced traction, and precise handling characteristic of GTI models.
