Security guard accused of brandishing gun and striking protester outside Msukaligwa Municipality

Tensions ran high as the security officers locked the gates to the municipal building after a while.

ERMELO – Fed-up residents of Ext 34, Wesselton, decided to voice their dissatisfaction by protesting at the Msukaligwa Local Municipality on January 13.

They complained they have been without water for nine months, and felt their issues were simply overseen by the municipality.

When Highvelder arrived on the scene, the angry group was waiting for anyone from the municipality to address their concerns and update them on when they would have water.

“We have been out here for three hours, without anyone even paying attention to us or coming out to hear our complaints,” one of the protesters told the paper.

They said they had to walk for more than a kilometre to fetch water, for more than nine months.

Recently, however, the residents from the nearby extension told them they were not allowed to fetch water there any longer.
