Man sets shack with wife and children inside on fire in Carolina

He was also burnt in the process.

CAROLINA – The Carolina Regional Court sentenced Ace Ndlovu (35) to 10 years’ imprisonment for three counts of attempted murder and arson, and three years for contravention of a protection order.

According to Sergeant Thabang Mokwana, spokesperson for the Carolina police, he was arrested in November 2020, after the police had been dispatched to a complaint in the Crossroads Section in Carolina where a shack was burning.

“Ndlovu had been fighting with his wife, locked his family inside the shack, poured petrol over it, set it on fire and fled the scene,” Mokwana said.

His wife (35) and two sons (seven and four) were locked inside and left to die in the fire.

The community assisted to extinguish the fire and rescued the injured family members, whom they took to Carolina Hospital.

Ndlovu got burnt by accident during the incident, and was arrested at Carolina Hospital where he was seeking medical assistance.

“Ndlovu was badly burnt and was admitted to hospital for about four months under police guard.”

Some time before the incident, Ndlovu’s wife had received a protection order against him.

The sentences will run concurrently. Ndlovu was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
