No contingency plans, no relief in sight for communities under Msukaligwa Municipality

Bates has visited Highvelder's offices several times in recent weeks to ask for any form of assistance to take the fight to the municipality.

BREYTEN – Residents of the communities served by Msukaligwa Local Municipality have been burdened by inadequate service delivery, municipal load reductions, and now load-shedding in advanced stages.

Highvelder has been inundated with enquiries regarding the steps necessary to address these problems.

Former Laerskool Breyten principal Louis Bates said he has had it with the dysfunctional Msukaligwa Local Municipality and its inability to effectively render services to these communities.

Bates has visited Highvelder’s offices several times in recent weeks to ask for any form of assistance to take the fight to the municipality.

He told the newspaper that he had gone to considerable lengths to try to help his fellow townspeople by doing his part.

“I engaged with local councillors and showed them a letter I had written to the president on June 23. I also received a response from an advocate in the Office of the Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, on June 29.”

He said he directed the councillors’ attention to the content of his letter, which addresses issues of service delivery, specifically water and electricity provisions.

Bates said on the advocate’s advice, he had sent a letter to the local municipality, but to no avail. He said he has not received a response.

It is his belief that the councillors he had engaged are trying their utmost best to address certain pressing issues, but unfortunately cannot make a tangible difference.

Bates now wishes to revert back to the advocate in order to request a formal enquiry to be conducted.
