Msukaligwa’s Troika ultimately suspended by ANC

The Troika said during a media briefing in January in response to the REC’s statement, that they were shocked when they received the media statement issued by the REC to suspend them.

ERMELO – The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga has suspended the mayor, council speaker and chief whip of the Msukaligwa Local Municipality.

According to the Mpumalanga ANC Acting Secretary, Ms Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, the Troika received their suspension letters that were physically delivered to them.

Mr Aubery Maboea, the spokesman for the ANC Regional Executive Committee (REC), previously said to the Highvelder a registration error caused the ANC in Msukaligwa to be unable to fully implement its decisions regarding the executive mayor, speaker and chief whip.

“The ANC therefore set up an interim Troika and allegedly engaged in consultations with them on the reconfiguration of the list,” he said.

The mayor Ms Aggey Mahlalela, the speaker, Ms Vuyiswa Madini and the chief whip, Mr Samkelo Buthelezi, allegedly refused to vacate their positions as agreed upon earlier.

The Troika said during a media briefing in January in response to the REC’s statement, that they were shocked when they received the media statement issued by the REC to suspend them.

“There is no Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) or National Executive Committee (NEC) decision that appointed them, it was a temporary arrangement with the region while we got our house in order,” Ms Ntshalintshali said.

Highvelder has sent media enquiries to Msukaligwa Local Municipality, as well as Ms Ntshalintshali regarding the future of Msukaligwa municipality’s leadership and will update readers as more information is obtained.
