Sports Minister keeps promise

“The renovations will encourage the youth to try other sporting codes, as we don’t want them to concentrate only on soccer.”

Sports Minister Mr Fikile Mbalula has once again kept his promise to the community of Silobela in Carolina by beginning renovations at the Silobela Stadium. The work will see the stadium being fenced, new grass planted, a new building with showers erected and existing courts renovated.
The Minister handed over a multi-purpose sports facility to the community earlier this year and committed to consider renovations to the stadium. Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) and the Provincial Department are the drivers of this project that has also created employment opportunities for the local youth.
According to Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality spokesman, Mr David Nhlabathi, the municipality is excited about the project as it will keep the youth constructively occupied.
“The renovations will encourage the youth to try other sporting codes, as we don’t want them to concentrate only on soccer.” Some of the local young people the Highvelder spoke to could not wait for the renovations to be completed, as they want to be back playing. They will hold competitive games to draw crowds and hopefully increase interest in different sporting codes.
