Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality delivers State of Municipal Address

The new proposed budget for 2020/2021 was tabled with a revenue of R 974 908 475 and expenditure of R 974 423 580, thus a budget deficit of R484 895.

Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality recently delivered it’s State of the Municipal Address Speech during a virtual meeting.

The municipality committed themselves to creating 4 000 jobs and were 646 short of their set-out target.

Regarding service delivery, council is of the opinion that water supply has improved.

“With the help of the Gert Sibande District Municipality and the Department of Water and Sanitation, the community around Lochiel, Oshoek and Swallowsnest have benefited from the Lusushwane Water Project and are now supplied with water.”

Furthermore, five high-mast lights were erected and 140 houses were connected to the electrical grid in Silobela.

“Our plan of reducing water, sanitation and waste removal backlogs is still on track.”

Some of the proposed capital projects

• R256-mil for the Regional Bulk Infrastructure Grant benefiting communities of Nhlazatshe, Dundonald, Glenmore, Mayflower, Malahleka, Fernie and Diepdale.
• R26-mil for revenue enhancement and drilling and equipping of boreholes in remote areas within the municipality.
• R13,5-mil for the upgrading of the Carolina Water Treatment Works (WTW)
• R15-mil for Carolina substation
• R10-mil for the upgrading of the Waste Water Treatment Works Empuluzi benefitting Ward 4,7,9
• R10-mil for upgrading of the Waste Water Treatment Works Elukwatini benefiting Ward 14 and 10
• R10-mil for smart toilets in Ward 2, 6, 7, 8, 16, 19, 21, 23, 24.
• R10-mil towards Fernie roads
• R10-mil towards Glenmore roads
