Suspect arrested in connection with double murder in Ermelo

It is suspected that all the victims were attacked with an axe.

ERMELO – A suspect was arrested earlier today in Ermelo in connection with a double murder, attempted murder, house robbery, and theft of a motor vehicle.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson for Ermelo police, they received a complaint of a house robbery in Sluiter Street.

Upon arrival police found two people deceased, a 59-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman.

The 25-year-old son of the deceased and his 20-year-old girlfriend were found injured on the scene.

It is suspected that all the victims were attacked with an axe.

The suspect fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Polo belonging to one of the victims.

Prinsloo said the suspect fled in the direction of Amsterdam.

“Approximately 10km outside Ermelo he was involved in an accident with another vehicle,” Prinsloo said.

Ermelo Police who were on the lookout for the stolen vehicle arrested the suspect at the scene of the accident.

The suspect is a 29-year-old man.
