All-new Suzuki Grand Vitara makes SA debut – here’s what it costs

The all-new Suzuki Grand Vitara has finally made its debut in South Africa, marking the end of an era for the previous generation.

Featuring a new design, the all-new Suzuki Grand Vitara is a reinterpretation of the Grand Vitara concept and boasts style, technology and ride comfort as its key features.

As a flagship model alongside the Vitara in Suzuki’s compact SUV line-up, the new Grand Vitara offers a choice of two drivetrain options, including the first-ever mild hybrid petrol-electric powertrain from Suzuki Auto South Africa. Customers can also choose between two- and four-wheel drive and three-gearbox options, a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. The range-topping GLX Hybrid Allgrip is fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission, making it a versatile vehicle for any driving style.

The exterior of the new Grand Vitara is a bold statement, with a wide clamshell bonnet paying homage to its predecessor, large plastic-clad wheel arches filled with 17-inch alloy wheels and functional roof rails. The multi-level grille is another unique feature, with an imposing centre section, metallic surrounds, a thin top section that neatly frames the S-badge and an inverted lower section that links with the bottom strike plate.

At the rear, a thin and imposing LED light bar stretches the width of the car, fitted with three-dimensional LED lights, and reverse and turn signal lights that are sculpted into the lower bumper.

Stepping inside, the entry-level GL models come with a seven-inch infotainment system with a reverse camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and voice recognition. The GL model also boasts automatic climate control, cruise control, a leather-covered multi-function steering wheel, push-button start, and six airbags as standard.

Moving up in the range, the GLX model comes with a panoramic glass sunroof, a 360-degree-view camera, Head-Up Display, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, and additional USB ports for rear passengers.

Under the bonnet, all models are powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 77kW of power and 138N.m of torque. This power is sent to the front wheels via either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

Customers looking for even more power can opt for the flagship Grand Vitara Hybrid AllGrip, available exclusively in GLX trim. This model is fitted with a higher compression 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, tuned to deliver 76kW of power and 137N.m of torque, boosted by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The power is distributed to Suzuki’s sixth-generation AllGrip variable all-wheel drive system via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Overall, the all-new Suzuki Grand Vitara is an impressive vehicle, with a sleek exterior design and decent technology features, making it a good option for SUV enthusiasts who are looking for an affordable, versatile and reliable vehicle.
