Cape lad Dayne Angel trumps Zwartkops’ Supercars at home

The G+H Extreme Supercars will join the opening National Extreme Festival next, for their second round at Killarney on Saturday 5 March.

Zwartkops may have been cool for its splendid 21st Birthday Passion for Speed races, but the G+H Extreme Supercars delivered some red hot racing to the delight of an enthusiastic crowd, only to be upstaged by an on form Cape Town visitor. Dayne Angel made no mistakes in his rapid black Porsche, as he sped from pole position to a double overall victory over Jonathan du Toit’s Lamborghini Huracan and Ben Morgenrood’s Lexus. Mark du Toit’s Ferrari meanwhile led Ricky Giannoccaro and Greg Parton’s Lamborghini home in the National GT3 race.
Despite Jonathan du Toit’s best efforts, Angel was never really troubled throughout in his Class A1+Porsche GT2R. But the action was fraught behind, as the pack jockeyed for position, several of them swapping paint and blemishing their supercar bodywork as they diced away. A late safety car to clean up after Richard Potts’ Lotus Exige spun, saw the field gathered together for a last sprint to the line and while du Toit Trans Africa Lamborghini Huracan was close, it was no cigar. Angel held him off for the win.

Morgenrood had a lonely race behind, once he’d fought back to third following a busy first few laps aboard his BMM Lexus V8 Coupe. Behind him, Damian Hammond did best of the battling bunch to bring his Trinity Protection Services Lamborghini Supertrafeo home to a Class A win. Mark du Toit’s Trans Africa Ferrari F430 GT3 took the Balance of Performance National GT3 win ahead of Class A man Deon du Plessis’ BPT KTM X-Bow RR and Greg Parton’s GT3 Drizit Environmental Lamborghini Huracan.
Class B winner, Ant Blunden’s SAJCO GSP Porsche 997 GT3 Cup took the Class B win ahead of Ricky Giannoccaro’s third in his GT3 G&H Transport Lamborghini Supertofeo. Jaco Nel was in the thick of the action in ninth in his Class B Wealthgroup Nissan GTR R35, ahead of Kashen Naicker’s Class A Mega Star Porsche 996, which looked a little worse for wear following a combative encounter, Darren Winterboer’s Barons BMW M3 and the delayed Xolile Letlaka’s Class A Stradale Into Africa McLaren 650S.
G+HZ Mark du Toit took GT3.
Charl Arangies was next home in his Stradale Into Africa Porsche 997 GT3 Cup, with Class D winner Johan Hatting next up in his Stradale Nissan 350Z. Spinner Potts’ Lotus, Nicky Dicks’ Porsche and second on the grid, Reghard Roets’ BB Nissan GTR R35 were all rendered hors de combat.
Angel kept Jono du Toit in his mirrors in race 2 as he sped to a double victory, with Morgenrood a lonely third. Class A men Naicker and Arangies, GT3 winner Mark du Toit, and Class A men Hammond and Letlaka followed. Second in GT3 Giannoccaro came home ninth in his Lambo, from dicing Class B duo Blunden and du Plessis, and Parton. Nel, Pott and Darren Winterboer’s BMW retired.

So, Dane Angel took the day and Class A+ from Jonathan du Toit and Ben Morgenrood. Mark du Toit won GT3 from Giannoccaro and Parton. Deon du Plessis won Class A, Ant Blunden Class B and Johan Hatting Class D. The G+H Extreme Supercars will join the opening National Extreme Festival next, for their second round at Killarney on Saturday 5 March. Considering that’s Dayne Angel’s home track, he should start as favourite. Depending on what guns some of his rivals take to Cape Town that weekend, of course.
