Detox smoothies you should add to your diet

Smoothies you should add to your diet for increased health and vitality.

Detox smoothies are blended vegetables and fruits that help your body release toxins. They are also great for increasing vitamins and minerals in the body as well as aiding with weight loss. For years, detox smoothies have been all the rage in wellness and health industries.

Although detox smoothies can be a part of a healthy diet, the human body actually detoxes itself. The liver, kidneys and lungs excrete waste that the body can’t store anymore. This means that while detox smoothies aren’t necessarily detoxing your body, the antioxidants contained in the ingredients may be helping your body’s excretory system rid itself of toxins known as free radicals. In doing so, the risk of disease is lowered drastically.

Here are 3 detox smoothies you can incorporate into your diet for a healthier lifestyle:

1. Banana smoothie

Banana smoothies are quick and easy to make. All you need are bananas, yoghurt, water and/milk, and some oranges for added vitamin C (if you wish).

If you are vegan or are lactose-intolerant, swap out the dairy for almond-milk or any other dairy-free variety.

Chuck all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until the mix is smooth with no lumps. If you want to add an icy flare to your banana smoothie, make sure to freeze the bananas beforehand and blend them frozen.

For added flavour, if you don’t have a peanut allergy, simply add a few teaspoons of peanut butter and you’re good to go. Banana smoothies are good for you because they contain potassium, which lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of kidney and heart disease.

2. Kale and spinach smoothie

Kale and spinach smoothies are a great way to add more green and fibre to your diet. All you need are two cups of raw spinach, one kale leaf, a tablespoon of chia seeds, dates, almond milk, a banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Add all the ingredients into a blender and blend until the mixture is smooth.

Kale is known to be bitter, so the dates, banana and peanut butter will mask the flavour and make the smoothie a bit sweet. Chia seeds are a great source of protein.

Kale is full of antioxidants and is one of the most nutritious foods — with over 10 vitamins and minerals ranging from vitamin C and K, magnesium, calcium, copper and many more. Spinach is good for you because it contains iron and zinc as well as antioxidants.

3. Pineapple smoothie

Pineapple smoothies are nutritious and refreshing. They are also fairly quick and easy to make. You need to make sure that you freeze your pineapples before making your smoothie, because the frozen texture adds an extra dimension of refreshment and deliciousness.

To make your smoothie thicker, add some Greek yoghurt. Honey and pineapple juice is also a great addition if you’d like to add more flavour.

The benefits of pineapples are that they’re rich in antioxidants, boost immunity, digestion and help with inflammation in the body.
