Summer Pudding to defend her reign in Summer Cup

Final entries close at 11 am on November 16 with declarations by 11 am on November 17.

The withdrawal of Got The Greenlight from the R1-million World Sports Betting Gauteng Summer Cup over 2 000m at Turffontein on November 28 has seen Summer Pudding move to the top of the latest log for the Grade 1 race.

Summer Pudding is trained by Paul Peter, who is also responsible for the two supplementary entries, Riverstown and Astrix. Both have made an immediate entry on to the log with Riverstown at number 15 and Astrix at number 20.

Unbeaten Summer Pudding, who has not raced since winning the Grade 1 Woolavington 2 000m at Greyville in June, will be seen in action at Turffontein on Saturday when she will make her comeback in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1 600m.

Riverstown has been allocated 56.5kg but is drawn number 41 of the 51 runners entered. Astrix fared a lot better in both departments, given a weight of 53kg and has landed number eight draw.

World Sports Betting announced last week that they would come in as the sponsor of one of South Africa’s most iconic races.

As part of the sponsorship, the stake of the Grade 1 race, one of the major events on the national horseracing calendar, has been increased from R425 000 to R1-m.

World Sports Betting will also sponsor all the supporting races on the card with the exception of the Grade 3 Merchants over 1 200m, which will be sponsored by New Turf Carriers again.

Final entries close at 11 am on November 16 with declarations by 11 am on November 17.
