MLocker for Isuzu’s mu-X

The Isuzu mu-X will now be offered with the Eaton MLocker which is a mechanical locking differential which provides additional traction.

The capable Isuzu mu-X also come in 4X4 guise with low-range and features a 230 mm ground clearance allowing for a 24-degree approach angle and a departure angle of 25.1-degrees. Further adding to its capability of conquering rough terrain is an optional mechanical diff-lock for both the 4X4 and 4X2 derivatives.  The differential is known as the Eaton MLocker which is a mechanical locking differential which provides additional traction without driver intervention.

The Eaton MLocker is capable of functioning as both a light bias limited-slip differential when presented with normal driving conditions and a full locking differential when the vehicle is struggling to gain traction. Should the mu-X struggle to find traction the MLocker automatically locks in a fraction of a second to assist the vehicle in gaining traction on a variety of surface conditions including gravel, mud, dirt and sand. The MLocker identifies a low traction situation when there is a wheel speed difference of 100 revolutions per minute. This initiates a flyweight mechanism to engage a latching bracket which then actuates the self-energising clutch system, forcing a cam plate to ramp up on a side gear. Preventing further wheel slip, this action continues until both axles turn at the same speed or in other words, the axle is fully locked. When normal operating conditions are detected the differential will unlock automatically.

The Eaton MLocker option is available on both Isuzu mu-X models at R 11 500.
