Hot cars for the ladies

For many people, the car is not just a mode of transport from point A to point B but rather a lifestyle choice, a fashion accessory and a status symbol. With the variety of options out there, choosing the right car to cater for your needs can be a tough decision.

At Autodealer, we tend to look at things from a man’s point of view when it comes to choosing a car, the faster, the louder, the better. Well, this is not always the case when it comes to the ladies. We recently conducted a survey within the Caxton East Rand office where we asked a handful of the staff members of the female persuasion what cars they prefer and why. The results varied so much we ended up compiling a list of cars that seem to appeal to most of the ladies in South Africa.

The younger woman in the office and only recently have started their careers seemed to lean more towards smaller, efficient cars. Cars that fit the categories of being cheap to maintain and easy to drive is the Suzuki Swift, Audi A1, Volkswagen Polo and Renault Clio. These cars offer fuss-free motoring and are financially more attainable for a single woman starting out in life.

Our survey showed that middle-aged women had different priorities and opted for a very different segment of vehicles. For those thinking of starting a family, cars like the Mazda CX3, Renault Capture, Toyota CH-R and Volkswagen Tiguan seemed to appeal more to this demographic than smaller cars. These vehicles are commonly referred to as crossovers, is a car that crosses over from hatchback to SUV and while they remain relatively small in dimensions they offer more luggage capacity and ground clearance.

Next up we found that slightly older women with growing families or school going children preferred much larger cars. Models such as the Ford Everest, Mazda CX-5, Range Rover Velar and Toyota RAV-4 as well as the Mercedes-Benz GLC were names mentioned. These larger SUVs offer even more space, a higher driving position and tend to make women feel safer in their travels. Some of the older women with their children out of the house seem to lean back towards smaller cars that once again have fuss-free driving and lower running costs.

When we proposed the situation of an unlimited amount of money, it returned with some very interesting answers. We got a list that included the Porsche GT3, the Jaguar F-Pace, the BMW Z4, BMW M5, the Mercedes CLA45, a Jeep Wrangler with all the options, the Audi R8 and the Audi Q8. I think it is fair to say that the women in our office put priorities first with realistic and logical choices. When the all-male Autodealer team has to choose a car we tend to immediately go for cars such as the BMW M3, Mercedes-AMG E63s and Lamborghini, cars that are not that sensible but they are fast and they are loud.
