Cambridge FC settles with a draw

Cambridge FC created various scoring opportunities.

Cambridge Football Club welcomed log leaders Alberton Football Club to MacKenzieville Stadium in Alra Park on March 23.

It was part of Hollywood Bets league fixtures in the second round.

Both Alberton and Cambridge wanted to make a statement with the match, where Alberton wanted to maintain their position on top of the leaderboard and Cambridge wanted to move up.

The opening stanza was dominated by Cambridge while Alberton was playing themselves into the match.

Cambridge created various scoring opportunities but failed to convert them into goals. The first half ended goalless.

When the second half started, both teams tried to hold possession of the ball for long periods and played tactically.

Cambridge Football Club and Alberton Football Club took to the field on March 23.

Alberton was the first to score when the goalkeeper misjudged the save and allowed an easy goal for Alberton.
In the closing quarter, Sechaba Ozil Masangane scored the equaliser. Masangane went from villain to hero as he missed a scoring opportunity in the first half.

Both teams tried their utmost to score the winning goal but had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

“Our overall performance was better but we have to take our chances to be competitive with the other top teams ” said coach Minihle Cooper Dineka Mthimkhulu.

“The crowd was amazing and spurred us on. It was heartwarming to play in front of a passionate crowd. We are happy to come away with a draw in the match,” said club chairperson Ignatius Maphike.
