Gymnasts qualify for SA Nationals Gym games

Elite Level 5 Gymnasts recently qualified to compete at the Gauteng Provincial competition, further succeeding to compete at the biggest national gymnastics event.

Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics Club competed at the Central Gauteng Gymnastics Association District Competition recently.

Elite Level 5 gymnasts proved to be successful once again and qualified to compete at the Gauteng provincial competition.

The competition took place at the Kibler Park Recreational Hall.

Four of the gymnasts qualified to compete at SA Nationals Gym Games that will take place on October 4 at the Tuks University in Pretoria.

The gymnasts that qualified were Amelia Shebe, Andisa Masikhwa, Stacey-lee Bailey, Chloe Leigh Callenkoppen and Gabrilla da Almeida as a reserve.

Denise Marreiros of Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics Club said they are proud of them for being so consistent and receiving phenomenal results.

She said they will all receive their senior Central Gauteng colours.

“Rhythmic Gymnastics is an ideal sport for girls in the development of hand or eye coordination. It teaches them to dance to music while handling apparatus like balls, hoops, ribbons, clubs and rope. This is an elegant sport with a lot of time spent stretching for flexibility and body strengthening,” said Marreiros.

Girls from the age of five and up who are interested are welcome to join and try out a free class at the Bracken Park Community Hall in Hennie Alberts and JG Strydom Community Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 15:00 to 17:00.
