Former world champ Konkco itching for action

Konkco back in the ring.

After having had his two fights cancelled last year, Simphiwe Konkco will finally shake off ring rust when he clashes with Ariston Aton from the Philippines in a 10-round minimum weight bout at Sun City on April 9.

This fight, which will form part of the Celeb City Boxing Exhibition bout between Cassper Nyovest and NaakMusiq, is set to give Konkco a chance to sort of relaunch his career after almost three years of inactivity.

The Tsolo-born Konkco is yet to fight since losing to former World Boxing Council minimum weight champion Chayaphon Moonsri, also known as Wanheng Menayothin, in Chonburi, Thailand, in October 2019.

“It’s a relief that this fight is happening. It’s been a long since I last fought. Everything is going according to plan at training. We are going all out for a win,” said Konkco.

Konkco, who is trained by Colin Nathan at Hot Box Gym in Johannesburg, has been preparing for the Aton fight, sparring with former world champions DeeJay Kriel and Hekkie Budler, as well as reigning SA minimumweight titlist Bangile Nyangani.

“I want to thank DeeJay and Bangile for sparring with me. Not forgetting my main sparring partner, Hekkie,” said Konkco.
