The Tshwane Women in Sports Awards (TWISA) finalists have been announced after what has been yet another challenging year on the courts, fields, tracks and in pools.
While the City of Tshwane has the most incredible sporting talent, it is not surprising that among this year’s finalists are Olympians and Paralympians.
Women in sport in Tshwane do not only excel in a diverse range of sports, but do so within all aspects, ranging from administrators, technical officials and sponsors alike, and TWISA is the opportunity to honour and celebrate their success.
Sixteen categories have been announced and the finalists and winners will be celebrated at a ceremony on February 16 at Future Africa, at the University of Pretoria.
“We are immensely proud of all our women in sport in Tshwane,” said Winston Meyer, president of the Tshwane Sports Confederation.
“They have continued to achieve despite the difficulties and challenges experienced as a result of the ongoing pandemic.”
The finalists are:
Sports woman of the year
Tatjana Schoenmaker – aquatics, Irvette van Zyl – athletics, Reabetswe Moloi – athletics, Elizabeth Janse van Rensburg – rugby
Most promising Team:
Gauteng Jaguars – netball, Tuks Women’s Rugby – rugby
Coach of the year – team sport:
Jenny van Dyk – netball, Laurencia Basson – netball, Koketso Makena – netball
Sports journalist of the year:
Zeldine Fourie – figure skating, Hloni Mtimkulu – eNCA
Administrator of the year:
Dannel Kruger – rugby, Alida Naude – cycling, Ziyanda Menziwa – athletics
