Cambridge wins last match of year

The team earned maximum points during the SAB League's final match of the year.

Cambridge FC travelled to Daveyton on December 12 to play against Daveyton United FC in the last match of the year for the SAB Ekurhuleni Regional League.

“The cloudy weather and beautiful pitch at the Sinaba Stadium gave fans a mouth-watering encounter,” said Cambridge coach Ignatius Maphike.

“Being at the bottom of the table, Daveyton United FC sought to take advantage of their homeground for a win. But the Cambridge boys were hungry and determined for a win in order to improve their results in their away games.”

The Cambridge team dominated the first half and ball position by displaying good football all around.

After various goal-scoring opportunities, Cambridge player Sechaba Masangane scored the first goal of the match with a right-footed strike.

“Masangane’s goal left the opposing team’s goalkeeper picking the ball out of the net with no chance of saving it,” Maphike said.

During the second half of the match, the Cambridge team came out strong and created multiple opportunities to score, but failed to convert them into goals.

Cambridge won the match with a score of 1-0.

“The boys played well,” said head coach Godfrey Hermanus.

“We are happy with the three points we gained from this away-game.

“The boys can go and enjoy a well-deserved rest until we resume matches in the new year.”

The Cambridge team will face another away-game in Kwa-Thema on January 14.

“We wish our fans a merry Christmas and a happy New Year,” Hermanus concluded.

“We also wish to thank our investors and sponsors for supporting the programme, and a special thanks to the technical director, Dennis Metsana, who helped to coach on the day.”
