Cambridge defeat neighbours Sphutla Stars 11-1

As early as five minutes into the game, Cambridge managed to score their first goal.

Neighbouring football clubs Cambridge and Sphutla Stars faced each other on Saturday.

Cambridge won 11-1.

The match was held at the Jim Fouché Stadium, with no spectators allowed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Shortly afterwards, the club scored their second thanks to an awarded penalty. Striker Moeketsi Monahang converted the penalty.

Monahang scored four more goals throughout the match.

Throughout the first half of the match, Cambridge enjoyed most of the possession. By the end of the first half, Cambridge led 7-0.

The second half saw Cambridge score four more times with Sphutla Stars managing to score once.

“I was very impressed with my team’s performance,” said Cambridge coach, Denis Metsana.

“It’s really hard to train with your opponent’s training right next to you, but we still managed to surprise them.

“I also want to give the Sphutla Stars the credit they deserve. They are still a young team but they played a good game and I am confident that they will grow into a great team.

“I must also thank my technical staff, Jabu Motha, Godfrey Herman and Ignatius Maphike, who make coaching very enjoyable.”
