Football action thrills fans

NIGEL - Nigel Football Club (NFC) played against Edenpark Hotspurs FC on February 26 and took the lead after striker Benna Benedict secured a goal in the last five minutes of the match.

Edenpark however, retaliated with a successful goal, which concluded the match in a one all draw.
In another derby that took place on February 27, Nigel FC took on Killers FC. From kick-off, the home team showed true character and won this game 2-1. Goals were scored by Ethan Titus and striker Benna Benadict.
Nigel FC subsequently qualified to play in the quarter finals and faced Norway United FC in the play offs. The match provided fans a ray of thrills and ended with a number of penalties. Nigel FC took an early lead with the first goal scored by John Roos, which was followed up with a superb second goal scored by Reglin. Norway FC however fought back hard and equalised the score, which resulted in a penalty shoot-out in the final minutes of the match. Goalkeeper Brendon Ratnasamy (limkat) thrilled soccer fans when he managed to save three penalties – securing a win for the home team and taking them to the semi-finals.

The qualifying match proved to be difficult as the team struggled to maintain form, due to fatigue and a loss of focus. Alry Malgas was the only scorer of the match and they lost 2-1 against Edenpark Hotspurs FC.

“NFC allowed the opposition an opportunity to advance to the finals, but management remains proud. We are pleased that they ended up playing in the semi-finals and they performed well, considering the fact that they played under appalling field conditions,” coach Dominique Magalhaes said.

Preparation for the Ester weekend has already started and NFC is looking forward to a great soccer weekend from 25 to 27 March.
