Gymnasts prepare for SA Games

Local gymnasts qualified to represent Gauteng at the SA Games.

Gymnasts from the Nigel Gymnastics Club are training hard for the SA Games.

Level 4-6 girls have had a successful run-up to the SA Games.

On July 19 and 20, the senior girls from Nigel Gymnastics kicked off their competition season with a bang.

They brought home eight apparatus medals and three medals in overall positions.

On July 26 and 27, the seven girls competed at the Ekurhuleni District Competition that was held in Pretoria. They all qualified to represent Ekurhuleni at the provincial competition.

The girls are placed as follows:

Level 4 – Mieke Esterhuizen: one silver, two bronze and third overall.

Level 5 – Joanika du Plessis: two gold, two bronze and first overall.

Vicky Badenhorst: one gold, three bronze and third overall.

Milan Vorster: one silver, two bronze and third overall.

Level 6 – Rene Vogel: two gold, two silver and first overall.

Kaylee de Bruyne: one silver, one bronze and fourth overall.

On August 10 and 11, these gymnasts competed at the Gauteng qualifier where they all qualified to represent Gauteng at the SA Games which will be held in Cape Town in late September.

At this competition, Mieke Esterhuizen placed second on beam out of 38 gymnasts.

For the next few weeks, they will be hard at training.
