A celebration of women and sport

Celebrating five years in the community.

In celebration of Women’s Month, a large group of women showed off their sporting skills at an event at the MacKenzieville Stadium in Alra Park.

The event, held on Women’s Day, was sponsored by Skaaris Funeral Home.

The sporting codes in which women could participate were hockey, netball, aerobics and soccer.

“We want to give back to the community by celebrating the sports that make Alra Park and MacKenzieville what they are,” said Annah Skaarnek of Skaaris Funerals.

“We are a community that comes together and the sports help people to celebrate together,” she added.

The netball and soccer players competed for a trophy.

The U15 soccer winner was Siwele Football Club.

Hockey and aerobics were introduced to the community and not played competitively.

The teams played with a lot of heart and determination during the day.

The winners received a gold medal, team trophy and sporting apparel.

Siwele Football Club won the U13 soccer.

The soccer winners were Siwele Football Club (U13 and U15).

On the netball court, the winner was the Shining Stars team.

“It was a very memorable event of celebrating our fifth anniversary in the community of Alra Park/ Mackenzieville. We want to thank our clients and community for supporting us these past five years,” said Skaarnek.
