Spot checks done to ensure full water restoration

Water to return soon to the taps.

The MMC for Water and Sanitation Thembi Msane conducted a site visit in Vosloorus and Nigel on July 31 to assess the systems after major repairs by Rand Water.

During the site visit, which will be an ongoing exercise until water is restored in all areas in Ekurhuleni, the MMC confirmed that there is full restoration to Vosloorus and Nigel and the system is gradually picking up to the affected areas.

“Despite some areas receiving water, there are those in high-lying areas such as Etwatwa and Kwa that are still experiencing water supply challenges,” explained Msane.

“We have moved resources such as water tankers to those areas to augment the capacity of the water supply. Technicians are closely monitoring the recovery of the water supply through the daily telemetry system which reports on the water system’s performance.

“Improvements are being observed in low-lying areas while rigorous regimes to balance water levels in the reservoirs are implemented, demonstrating a commitment to restoring full supply as quickly as possible.”

The recovery period for full restoration takes between three and 15 days, and high-lying areas take longer to recover as the water pipes and towers need to be filled to a specific level before technicians start pumping the water systems.

The City of Ekurhuleni remains dedicated to ensuring that all residents receive water.

Residents are advised to refrain from damaging the city’s fire hydrants to access water and call for patience while the city manages the system’s recovery effectively.
