You’ll win hands down with this club

Arm wrestling is a sport of strength where two players face each other with locked hands and bent elbows on a table. They then try to force or pin the other’s hand to the tabletop.

The game requires a combination of physical strength, strategy and timing.

Alexa van der Nest is the stronger arm in an arm wrestling club based in Nigel and encourages anyone interested in the sport to join her.

“It is a fun family sport and helps with mental and physical health,” she said, adding that it is vital to respect your opponents, listen to the referee and never lift your elbow.

Van der Nest started the club in June. The practice sessions are every Wednesday from 18:00 to 20:00 and Sunday afternoons from 14:00 to 16:00.

She is unbeaten in the women’s section. Aiden Stander is the strongest in the men’s section.

To join the club, which operates from a residential home, call Angelique Stander on 079 239 1748.
