SAPS engage with learners

Various other stakeholders were involved in the outreach.

The Heidelberg SAPS, with its crime prevention members, held a school talk at Shalimar Ridge Primary School on May 14.

Various other stakeholders were involved in the outreach, including the Department of Social Development, the Lesedi Traffic Department, the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, patroller brigades, Green Door and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

The talk was to improve the learners’ social skills and learning dedication and explain the roles of all the role players involved in helping the learners.

Other topics included bullying, substance abuse, sexual offences and road safety.

“The learners’ responses to the topics were positive and constructive. Learners engaged with us and asked questions. We further assured learners of their safety inside and outside the school premises,” said Constable Doris Nkosi, the Heidelberg Social Crime Prevention co-ordinator and corporate communications officer.

“The school principal was happy with our visit and encouraged us to continue working with them and to share our knowledge. It is important to ensure their learners are safe and comfortable with each other and respectful to their peers and their families.”
