Ratanda community vents their frustrations

Foreign national shops targeted in Ratanda.

No further incidents of public violence were reported over the past weekend in the Ratanda area following protests by community members.

After the recent killing of a minor in Ratanda Ext 6, the community took to the streets burning tyres and targeting businesses owned by foreign nationals in the area.

According to Ratanda SAPS communications officer Sergeant Moss Maluleke, Ratanda SAPS and public order police have kept control over the actions in Ratanda and no injuries were reported.

Tyres were burnt in Ratanda Ext 6.

The SAPS is monitoring the situation.

“Ratanda SAPS has sent out a plea not to take action and break the law. Please leave it in the hands of the SAPS to handle the burning criminal issues in the area. Investigations are at a sensitive stage and needs to be handled in a respectful way,” said Maluleke.
