Cambridge puts four goals past opponents

Cambridge returns to winning ways.

Cambridge Football Club hosted Thembisa’s New Generation Football Club on March 9 at MacKenzieville Park in Alra Park.

Both teams were competing to stay in the top five on the league standings.

The match started with both teams playing a defensive game. No goals were scored in the first half.

In the second half, Cambridge had one objective in mind and scored four goals against their Thembisa opponents.

The first goal was scored in the 50th minute of the match. After that was a procession of goals for Cambridge FC.

Sphiwe Makhubo, Sechaba Ozil Masangane, Kgotso Mahura (captain) and Vusimuzi Sibeko scored the Cambridge goals.

Cambridge’s goalkeeper made excellent saves to ensure no balls passed him into the goal areas.

This victory cements Cambridge’s place in the top five of the league standings and will ensure the other teams take note that Cambridge is a force to be reckoned with.

“The players left it late, but it is good for our confidence after a bitter loss in Boksburg last week,” said Cambridge FC coach Minehle Dineka Cooper Mthimkhulu.

“We thank the community and the local football association for supporting the team,” said chairperson Ignatius Maphike.
